2010 IPS Medallists

1) The IPS President's Medal

Professor Frank Watt
(National University of Singapore, NUS)

Professor Watt is the Director, Centre for Ion Beam Applications (CIBA). In this capacity, he leads the CIBA group and mentors numerous PhD candidates, young Postdocs and also demonstrates leadership for younger physics colleagues. Under his very dedicated and outstanding leadership, CIBA has also done excellent research in Biophysics, Medical Physics and Engineering physics.

2) IPS World Scientific Medal :

Assoc. Professor Valerio Scarani
(National University of Singapore, NUS)

Assoc. Professor Scarani has conducted excellent research in Quantum Cryptography, Quantum Entanglement, Non-locality and Theoretical assessment for experimental groups.

3) Omicron Nanotechnology Medal:

Asst. Prof. Ariando
National University of Singapore)

Asst. Professor Ariando has done outstanding Nanotechnology research, namely, to explore heterostructure, supperlattices, or/and quantum wells between various epitaxial films, both from a fundamental as well as device-oriented viewpoint.

4) IPS Cadi Scientific Medal:

Dr. Chew Tuan Chiong
(Frasers Centrepoint Asset Management Ltd)

From 1995 to 2009, Dr. Chew was the Chief Executive of the Singapore Science Centre (SSC). Under his committed, creative and outstanding leadership, SSC was transformed into an innovative world-class educational facility with a visitorship in excess of one million per annum.

Dr. Chew is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Frasers Centrepoint Asset Management Ltd, the manager of SGX listed Frasers Centrepoint Trust, which has an asset size of S$1.4 billion.

Dr. Chew has been awarded the Public Administration Medal (Silver) (Singapore), and also the Sugden Award by the Combustion Institute (UK).

5) IPS Crescendas Medal (High School):

Mr. Yap Boon Chien
(Tanjong Katong Girls' School, TKGS)

Although trained as an engineer, Mr. Yap is an outstanding teacher at Tanjong Katong Girls' School, known for lively physics lessons that are of an interactive nature.

This accomplished teacher has also developed numerous physics pedagogies that included “physics magic shows”.

6) IPS Crescendas Medal (Junior College):

    

Mdm. Chang Sook Mei
(National Junior College, NJC)

Mdm. Chang is a very dedicated and passionate physics teacher with 25 years of in-service teaching experience at National Junior College.

This outstanding master physics teachers must have trained thousands of “A” level Physics students to date.

With her vast experiences, she has also developed many physics teaching pedagogies while being actively engaged in pastoral care of students and coaching of young teachers through mentoring.

7) IPS Honorary Fellowship Medal:
