Prof. Wee's former MSc student Miss Ghim Wei Ho has won the photo competition recently held at the Department of Engineering, University of Cambridge. Ghim Wei is now a PhD student working for Professor Mark Welland, at the Cambridge Nanoscience Centre.

Alfred Chong Yung Fu, who is co-supervised by Pey Kin Leong (formerly ECE, NUS, now EEE, NTU) and Andrew Wee of Surface Science Lab, Physics Dept, has been selected as a recipient of the IEEE Electron Devices Society Graduate Student Fellows for 2002. There were only 3 recipients from the whole world in 2001 - one from US, one from Australia and the other from Europe. The Fellowship Program was established to promote, recognize, and support graduate study and research within the Electron Devices Society's field of interest. The fellowship will be presented at the 2002 IEEE International Electron Devices Meeting (IEDM) on Monday morning, 9 December 2002, at the San Francisco Hilton and Towers Hotel, San Francisco, CA. It will consist of a plaque and a check for US $5,000. In addition, The National University of Singapore will receive a $2,000 grant, of which $1,000 will be used to help support, the activities of his department and the other $1,000 for his specific research project.

Alfred Chong is currently a PhD student registered in ECE NUS.
