Advice on downloading files

The device-independent [dvi] format is the best choice if you already have TeX or LaTeX installed on your system. Their file sizes are generally the smallest (no fonts are encoded in them).

The postscript [ps] files are generated at 600 dots-per-inch resolution and set to A4-sized paper. They are delivered in gzip format, which your browser should automatically uncompress.

The portable document format [pdf] files are the largest because they contain all the necessary TeX fonts. If you use A4-sized paper, don't forget to change the print setup in Acrobat Reader.
