Thaton, Martaban Coast, Myanmar
The forested and hilly eastern part of the image is dramatically separated from the cultivated and settled coastal plain to the west by the large Three Pagodas Fault. Towards the north, the Bilin River flows into the Gulf of Martaban, depositing huge quantities of sediment. In the centre is Thaton, an ancient city close to the fault line. The flat coastal plain is intensely cultivated for rice.
