The western coast changes repeatedly between long straight sandy beaches and rocky headlands. The largest bay, about two-thirds of the way down the coast, is backed by the well-known Patong Beach. The airport is visible to the extreme north. The coastal town of Phuket is towards southeast. Parts of the island are still forested, but Phuket shows tourism-related developments near the beaches, reservoirs, ponds, and cleared grounds. The eastern bays are full of sediment. To the northwest of the island, surface wave trains are visible, and to the southwest, clear lines of internal waves. Image Information
