Irrawaddy River Delta, Myanmar

The tidal nature of the delta is shown by the numerous inlets, tidal creeks and elongated islands. The Irrawaddy is discharging a very heavy sediment load to the Bay of Bengal. The area in red towards the west is the vegetated southernmost tip of the Arakan Yoma hills. Other red patches near the sea are mangroves. Paddy fields cover most of the delta.
