Current Research and Future Direction

  • Research is in the multidisciplinary field of surface and nanoscale science, with primary interests in surface nanostructure formation. The work involves ‘bottom-up’ self-assembly methods in vacuo for the spontaneously formation nanoscale templates on surfaces. Latest work involves single molecule studies and molecular electronics devices.

  • Other research interests include:
    • Surface reconstructures studied by STM, IV-LEED and DFT calculations,
    • Application of synchrotron radiation techniques to surfaces and nanostructures,
    • Depth resolution studies in SIMS and ultrashallow profiling
    • Ion beam modification and nano-patterning of surfaces,
    • Carbon nanotubes and related nanomaterials for nanodevice applications.
  • Prof Andrew serves on several international journal editorial boards:
    • Int. J. Nanoscience (Co-Managing Editor),
    • Surface & Interface Analysis (Regional Editor),
    • Surface Review and Letters (Editorial Board).
    • Current Nanoscience (Editorial Board).
